Are you amortal?

Catherine Mayer wrote a great book called ‘Amortality’. You get the sense that 60 is the new 30. If you think that you ignore your age, then take a few minutes to listen to her as she talks about what it is to be amortal.

Amortals have a particular way of seeing things… if everyone is doing something one way, then that is reason enough to find another way of doing it!

Add to this our dogged persistence and you would be starting to understand how amortals think. After all, we have all the time and energy in the world to get where we want to go.

Funny thing is that once we get there, we want to be somewhere else, and start the process all over again. Is it any wonder that amortals make wonderful entrepreneurs. In fact they are probably best thought of as ‘Serial Entrepreneurs’. Which ever way you look at it, amortals seem to have a boundless capacity for getting stuff done. The truth is that in our quest to avoid ageing, or inching closer to our final breaths, we fill our time with meaningful distractions that constantly confirm our ageless capacity to do great stuff.

Once we have come to terms with our amortality, we then turn our focus onto finding an endless series of projects and intertesting things to do, and usually we do it very well!
Hey sounds like my ‘trench theory’ …. you find the project… go deep until you get as far as you can (read that as successful as you can make it) and then get out and start another trench! Sound familiar all you amortals?

Unfortunately there are those amortals who direct their energies into negative pursuits… but this blog is not about them , but rather the fantastic people that I have met and worked with over the years, and the cool ideas that I have had the pleasure in bringing to life. I will be sharing many of those along the way. You might say… good fodder for amortals!

So how do you pick an amortal amongst the crowd?
Well, have you ever been in a meeting or at a function and been drawn like a magnet to someone … their energy is electric and they just hoover people up into their vortex. When you find them, get on board for the ride, because you are going to go somewhere… where? well that’s up to you, but it will surely be a great ride. If you are an amortal, then you will likely gel instantly, feeding off each others energy and desire to get about digging a few trenches together….
